Cairo: The Suez Canal brought in revenue of $5.3bn in 2014, the highest figure since its inauguration in 1869.
The figure is an increase of $22m on the revenue earned in 2013, head of Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish announced on Monday.
The New Suez Canal project, which will widen the Canal to allow two ships to sail abreast, is expected to raise the Canal’s revenues to $100bn in three to five years, Mamish said. [07/01/15]
